Helva is our traditional Turkish Restaurant Helva, is an ancient Turkish confection dating back 3000 years. It is a simple dessert with an almost universal appeal. The basic mixture is based on roasted sesame seeds, which are grounded into a paste (Tahini) and mixed with sherbet and semolina. it was eaten by Kings, Queens, Princes and Sultans.
The word Helva, derived from the Arabic word 'Helwa' meaning sweet, dating back to thirteenth century. It entered the English language from the Yiddish Halva around 1840. It is a comrnon sweet among ali of the Turkish, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. It is served at wedding celebrations and festivals. -

Our ancestors, who migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia, came across many different culinary traditions, and adopted many of these into their cuisine Elements of Persian cuisine came with the establishment of Seljuk Empire's Infl uence: which adopted Arab and Jewish dishes based on wheat and lamb upon settling in Anatolia and seafood dishes from Greeks and Romans as they reached to the Aegean and Mediterranean coastlines As such, Turkey's culinary heritage that was built up over 5000 years ranging from Hittites to Roman and Byzantine Empires.
